Looks like I might be needing a new Field Trial Dog. Last Thanksgiving at Blake and Ducks Race, Gunner injured his leg. It's in the front right leg, in the what I would call his elbow joint. It swelled up after the Heat a little. Then after the Final it got worse. He ran well in the Final, but came in limping. Took him to the Vet and was told to let him rest and it would probably go down. It did some, but not completely. So a couple of weeks ago I took him back and they drained off some fluid. Let him rest again, but as soon as I started roading him it swelled up again. Do you guys have any ideas, or am I screwed?? Nice youg dog that has been in the Finals when I have run him. He seems to like water, so I may try swimming him. Not sure how that will work out. Was thinking about coming to Mud Road, but now may wait for the Iowa Derby.

Still been roading Gunner slow and easy. There still looks like a little fluid on that joint, but so far haven't noticed much limping. But as I said, been going slow, easy, and not far. Is this a common condition for todays field trial dogs, and can they run with a little fluid in a joint?

gunner has had that funny looking elbow since he was a pup. throw him a bayer asprin with his feed a few days before you run him and one the morning of the race day and he'll be fine
