Was told about that! Didn't hear a complaint about the judge !Needed a Field Marshall that would keep the catchers on the hill catching dogs instead of judging line!!

I have stated many Many times I am not a Tree Judge But at the last Race I sponsored I was just that the biggest part of the day including the open final----- I have told this story before---- I probably made some mistakes but I found that keeping the tree open for the dogs made it much easier. I seen the system at Todd Brights when he had a race in Owenville The front third of the tree was dogs only no one gets in that area for no damn reason It worked really well for me And it was true I had to harp on the handlers to keep them back Never thought, at that time, to run the hustlers out for the day

I believe if the tree judges would hand in some blank ticket when when the tree gets rushed, they may get the hint.

completely agree if one dog barks and eight people rush in don't vote simple as that yea the dog gets screwed but it will teach people that it is the dog that is getting the vote not the person

well should that judge not vote or if someone with honest tree dog leaves dog down and judge sees dog barking(even if have heard 2 or more dogs bark) should he vote for that dog?

THE 70'S ?? OH YEA THAT'S WHEN THEY RAN THEM WITHOUT MUZZLES AND THE FIGHTING LINE DOGS WERE PICKED UP AND THE CATCHERS KNEW BETTER THAN TO RUSH IN WHEN CERTAIN DOGS RAN

By the way. I remember the same complaining about tree judges in the 70's as present day so I stand by my statement that if it is broke now it has been broke forever. Come to think of it some of the complainers are the same people

Are you suggesting that its been broke so long that there is no reason to fix it?? And I remember having to stand in one place at the tree untill a judge indicated it was ok to handle the dog Maybe being of old age and all I just think thats the way it should be and am confusing the thought with reality. Here is a thought Lets start a list of people we think would be reliable tree judges

TALKED TO SEVERAL YESTERDAY AT WINCHESTER, BY SEVERAL I MEAN ONLY 4. THESE FELLA'S RAN SINCE THE 60'S AND 70'S. MINIMUM AGE OF THE GROUP WAS PROBALY MID 60'S OLDEST OF THE GROUP MID TO LATE 70'S. ALL INDICATED THAT THE JUDGING NOW COULD BE CONSIDERD BETTER THAN BACK THEN CONSIDERING THE SPEED OF THE DOGS, LENGHT OF THE TRACKS, GROUPING OF THE PACKS COMING TO THE TREE AND THE ABSENCE OF JUDGES AND THEIR FRIENDS BUYING DOGS ON THE AUCTIONS. FIGURE THIS SHOUD PUT A END THIS DISCUSION ON HOW BAD IT IS NOW COMPARED TO THEN.

Somtimes the truth hurts to hear, denial is a overwhelming thing. Funny what a guy can learn if he just sits around eating his breakfast buffet AND LISTENS TO THE ACTIVE OLDER FIELD TRIALERS

I am one in the 70's and I'll tell you judging now is not even judging its pick a dog and hope you don't get a lot of flack Back in the day you picked the right dog or got your ass flogged It just as another person my age said some time ago ! If fighting wasn't outlawed Judging would be a lot more honest!

WHEN DID FIGHTING GET OUTLAWED ?

Post by sundial on Nov 24, 2010 10:03:06 GMT -5
I agree on the let'em fight point. Tree judges could give the whinners a good slap up side the head to the ones that like to say they are cheating. Would also give those that are talked about a chance to crack a few jaws to those that like to express thier opinions on the site when they are in the saftey of the home. Figure they'll have to come out sometime to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk. Might stop alot of the jibberish going on in present day field trialing.

Think some of the cry babys need 2 get a tree slip in there hands and see what's its like under the tree trying to judge. Then that should shut em up. Then they will find out it's a lot easier judging from the other side of the fence!

Wouldn't it be better to make it easy to judge instead of letting the handlers rush the tree Keep em back ! I am convinced all this - Don't fix it -- plays right into the hands of those who like hustling and cheating They are right its been bad for years but I sure don't think thats a reason to let it stay bad I've seen a system that will be tryed Maybe Just maybe there are enough wanting change that will give it a chance We will see!

When did you hold trials Fred??? Back in the 60s sorry Fred want alive yet..... hell I put on 2 one dayers up here in Michigan this year didn't see you there and I didn't hear any bitching. 90 percent of the time I was the tree judge. And all I heard was good things about the race. If you look through the books you'll see my name in there every week from the beginning march through the end of October. Oh Yah you'll see me out under the tree with a slip in my hands and out at the line too. I think that's walking the walk.

Twas in the 9o's Found new grounds layed out new track s measuring near a mile and held a couple Trials Turned the grounds over to another fellow who turned them over to someone else And during that time I watched them slowely ddeteriorate into non existance. Done some judging there also . While I was sponsor . See post 56 Been running dogs since th 40's Our first pair of dogs were Pete And Repeat --in the days of Flying Boots-- Had ten years off doing a thing in the Air Force started back at it in the 60's and have been at it as long as I've had a running dog ever since I am not --unlike a few folk-- an expert in anything about Field Trials I do --however -- know when things are not right and need en fixed All this discussion about tree dogs and the problem with the judging of the dogs is a problem and it accures to me I am the --ONLY -- one that sees it the rest are saying I should take a slip and see how tough it really is I already know its a problem don't need a slip What I would like to see--and nodoubt will never see-- is the problem solved Why not fix it ! I spent a couple years as an OFTA member where every year I held court on that subject and got no where Now According to these posts its never going to get fixed Easier to qualify three dogs Two thru the votes one thru a pay off Instead of voting for the tree dog Hey you guys have a good Thanksgiving Hope you have a turkey instead of being one

Watch it Mr Administrator! your starting to sound like another guy who after a year or 2 in running dogs knew everything. Some of the older generation who no longer sponsor trials can't be it for phyisical, financial or other reasons but have over the years done more than their fair share. And yes things have changed and not for the better(but since you have only been doing this for a short time u wouldnt know how it use to be) just ask Mr. Erlandson but I'm sure in your travels he has told you. I am glad you did get into running dogs we need more young folks to try to survive. And before you say anything,no I haven't had my name on a hand bill as the sponsor. But Iam very involved over here! I have got us new grounds, even helped lay out new tracks, schedule the races, plan and run cook outs, judge, lay tracks, clean tracks, etc. If I'm not running a dog I don't turn down a pad when asked, and like yourself don't remember to many bitching at me!

I'm not claiming that I know everything I'm just voicing an opinion as others on this site and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stay in the sport for a while considering I got nine at my house. And Mr ealandson has 20 at his house. I enjoy it. Running dogs the party at the club houses the ppl and of course arguing with other trialers about how things are done..... hopefully see everyone @ snowball Derby

If a "sponsor" would have their shit together they wouldnt be running around asking for judges! If I am there to run dogs then thats what I am going to do, I think its ridiculous that people dont line up judges and then cry and bitch because no one will help them. Poor planning if you ask me...
