I hear everyone complaining about tree judges so what exactly do you consider a "TREE" bark then Do they gotta have there feet on the tree what?

The word tree is simple---A dog should be at least facing the tree when barking. Not coming in another dog or even better trying to kill a dog. At least that's my opinion

agree but some times the tree dog gets caught in the middle of the conflict. Hard for a judge to decide who was really treeing.

Seems to me that a TREE dog is whatever type of dog a person is running when asked the question. If a slasher is what their running, then thats what a tree dog is. If an honest barker is what their running, then thats what a tree dog is etc... Never yet seen a catcher turn down the tree cause the dog didn't bark up to their own definition. lol

anybody that has bred any field dogs in the last 50years have it been jc,magran, griffen, mason, music, mason, bright, ohl, makes no diffrinse we all did it for one perpose compete you did not breed to the dog that run 5th looking back to see who mite be coming to hit him no you bred to the one that ran 1st and barked at the dog along side of him because you bred compete now you got compete and dont like because now 90% of them are barken at that dog but how do you tell i think the muzzle rule was needed but now you got 10 dogs and catchers under the tree not 6or7 throw the arm bans away go back out front to the box make that judge come out ask for numbers owners and judges alike do the watch there dog or the dog they think is going to bark and miss 1or2 that bark in front of them watched couple guys out here do it for years lets go back an lay tracks that they have to run the track like 40years ago get dogs stretched out alittle go through the woods corn over fences we could get alot more places to run that way i dont mean hounds but i did like the curs read a story today said if things were so good back in the good old days why are we driving 40,000 dollar truck in stead of a horse and buggy

do agree with ez to an extent,Ithink the tree box instead of the bands might help. I hate that the catcher is judged not the dog I think anyone should be able to handle their own dogs! Have been saying for years we are training these dogs to be ground barkers not tree dogs! But I guess in the breeding catagorey I'm one of the exceptions as I try to breed a driving dog one who WANTS to run the track ie.. Happy feet, empire maker these are not fighting dogs AT ALL. But then again the ones out of H.F. were running dogs but just a step short on being "big timers",but not short on desire!( doesn't mean I havent owned the other type tho) I have noticed in the last few years that the tracks are getting progressivly shorter, some areas still do run a mile track.

ive noticed the shorter tracks as well, many times ive heard people saying the tracks were long yet when asked length none have answered over a mile, to me a mile track should be the standard and longer tracks being 1.2 miles and beyond, would love to see grounds w tracks over a mile again but also understand they are hard to find and keep groomed

not everyone can afford or raise one of the big time green dogs. There are some claim dogs that are good dogs.Maybe we should think about breeding some of these speed dogs to some of these rougher dogs and get some decent dogs that will bark at the coon. These dogs will track if time is taken to let them learn.I will say this for some of troopers dogs.We had 4 pups of hers here for awhile and they would go to the woods and track each other. One in particular, would put that nose to the ground and track Bob and the others.Tiny takes dogs from here and teaches them to track. It depends what we want.we really shouldn't gripe as we are the ones that have bred these dogs this way.Is it easier to have speed dogs that fight and dog bark at the tree or do we want dogs that will bark at the tree.Everyonce in awhile a dog comes along that has speed and barks at the coon.We can bred that into them but it maynot be in the 1st generation,so I guess it boils down to this. What do you want?

to me a tree dog depends on the judge because its up to them what they consider tree, i always try to train mine to bark coming in and to bark honest up so can win with either judge but we all know cant train every dog to do the same thing and get same result.
