ok this came up this weekend and there is no specific rule and since this is suppose to be a place to TALK about things thought I'd throw this out there and see what feedback comes in.
so in wpa circuit(and others) we have a rule that states if less than 7 dogs are entered to begin with there are no heats run you go right to the final. so the 600 goes right to the final on this day but someone who originally enters their dog in the green or opens looses their heat and wants to drop to the 600 in the reup, should there be a 600 reup if no heat? or is that class closed? If that's the only dog wanting to reup in that class and they pay entry fee and dog will run track by himself should they then qualify for 600 final? or no unfair advantage for 600 dogs who havent run track on said day? just thought i"d throw this out there for discussion!!

I am not a big fan of the straight to the final rule myself, whether it be a buy in, or the rule you are reffering to. I feel a dog has to earn a spot in the final to win said final. By earn I mean "win" a heat or re-up.

Need to at least run a heat and hopefully a re-entry. Or else call it a pot race with no points ??

Pay heat money according to the number of dogs entered like in the WI/NO. IL circuit. 6 or more dogs $15 & $10 4-5 dogs $10-$5 1-3 dogs: No heat money
Run the heats no matter how many dogs are entered in that class.

lots of good replies,, Chaz know what you mean by dogs should have to win but we put that rule in 7 or more a few years ago cuz we were loosing alot of money usually in the open or 600 to pay out both when only 3-5 of that class would enter. Chuck thats a good possibility we pay out $15-$10 but has to be 7 or more I guess this would be a good discussion to bring up at the meeting,oh yeah I forgot no one shows up! Mw,dog in question did go to the 300$ in reup!

It works out well in the WI/IL club and we have a 5 dollar reup with no heat money. I still agree a dog should run in the heat no matter what not just go to a short final. Sometimes you can fill up a final even with a short heat the re-ups can surprize you.

If we ran heats and finals for all the classes that do not have enough dogs entered, the circuit would loose money. Week after week, the circuit would eventualy go broke. No circuit, no races. I was the only committee member at the race, so I was the lucky one that had to make the decision. Our rule is 7 or more dogs entered in a class to make a heat. Less than 7go to final. You cant have re entry for a class that you didnt have a heat for in the first place. I wish we would be more concerned about having a race this weekend than worried about an issue that may never come up ever again. We dont have a circuit race until June.

In our circuit, 5 dogs pays $8 for 1st only. We take in $40 and pay out $16. That's $24 profit. If 2 re-enter it pays no heat money, theres $40 to put towards the $50 final. You add gate fee and 50/50 and the Green and Gr.Gr. entries you still come out ahead. The $600 and Open are the least entered in most small circuits but the green, gr.gr. and cheap claimers usually pick up there slack. Why do these small clubs feel they have to have money in an account somewhere??? The only money needed is for the race that day and maybe the grounds in some instances. As long as the entries pay for the race that day and the grounds everything is good. If not enough dogs are entered on any given day you have a percentage race to ensure that the finals and grounds are paid for. Problem solved!!!!

I thuink the money goes back to the club unless someone changed it. When you dont have a copy of the rules it is hard to say. But it always has been the money goes back to club not the sponser.

Agree people should worry more about a race then who gets money. Our club seems to have money and so does the other one just no races

Every circuit does what it has to do to survive. Do what you think is best for the area. Sometimes the best decision isn't the most popular at the time but in long term it keeps the circuit alive. In the end the it works out for the best.

Botsy would be great if we could meet at some of these grounds for pot chases or training but they all require us to pay rent to be there also some of them only let you use there grounds so many times a year.
